A photo essay on the unique trim and paint features of the Oleg Cassini Matadors:
Special thanks to Tom Benvie, owner of this 1974 Cassini Matador Coupe, for the pictures.
Cassini emblems and badges are found on the hood, trunklid, glove box, and front fenders behind the wheel arch. The crest is also embroidered on the headrests. Cassini models were available in black, white and copper, with copper and black vinyl tops available. All came with custom black and copper interior with copper colored carpet.
Note the copper colored grille, unique to the Cassini model. Also note the copper color of the headlight surround - standard color was a dark gray or black.
Another unique Cassini feature is the copper accent around the door openings, and the copper accent in the rear licence plate recess. Note also that the Cassini has all the brightwork, including the chrome trim around the license plate recess, around the front grille area, along the rear of the hood, and on the front edge of the hood.
The interior of the Cassini features unique black fabric with copper buttons and copper accents on the seats and door panels. The front headrests have the Cassini crest embroidery detail. The carpet is copper-colored. The dash instruments feature copper accents. The glove box door has the Oleg Cassini emblem.
The Cassini trim package included finned hubcaps with copper highlights. The cars could also come with any other available AMC option, including roll-down quarter windows, rear window defroster, and engine choice. This car has a 360 four barrel. All Cassini Coupes had column shift automatic transmission.
Tom sent this note along with the pictures:
"The last picture is a decal on the car the New England AMC
club has on their cars in memory of Craig Miller of East Bridgewater, Mass (my hometown-I've known Craig 30 years, when he was an infant). Craig was a Secret Service agent who went into the World Trade Center to offer aid and didn't make it
out, the only one of over 100 agents there that lost his life. He had 7 month old twins at the time. Craig owned a number of
AMCs, as does his dad George. Craig also won 2 Bronze Stars in the Gulf War. He is greatly and sadly missed."
